What is a good CTR for Google Ads?

What is a good CTR for Google Ads?

In this post we look at a question everyone asks when setting up paid ads; what is a good CTR for Google Ads?  To understand this question needs some pulling apart and looking at each point.  Below is the breakdown of what is important and understanding Google Ads and what is a CTR?

How do I set up Google Ads?

This form of marketing is a great way to drive traffic to the website through various channels.  These include Google, which we are looking at in this post, LinkedIn, Meta, which includes Facebook and Instagram, Pinterest and TikTok

For this purpose we are looking at Google and will use this example.  As a business you can set up a free Google Ads account, just a simple search or if you have a Gmail account it can done through this channel.

Once your account is set up then you can link it your WordPress, Shopify, IONOS, Wix or any other CMS system you have.  It is quite simple and in the dashboard of your site you will see areas or plugins that you can add to connect the Google Ads and your website.  It is also necessary to link your Google Analytics/ G4 account to the website so it can track all the activity too.   We think the Google Analytics is such a great tool for all businesses, large or small, as this gives you and in depth understanding of the activity on your website.

Once you have set up the Google Ads and connected everything to your website you are then ready to start the next step

Setting up Google Ads campaigns

For this you will need a marketing agency to set up your ads to run smoothy.   We have listed some points below to think about with regards to the campaigns

  • This will involve creating a spreadsheet of keywords you would like to be included.
  • List if competitors so your agency can see how they are ranked and what they talk about
  • Limit to how much you wish to spend per day/week/month
  • Landing pages with relevant content and images
  • Patience as this will involve some learning at the start as you get the campaigns moving

What is the CTR?

This is the part you can measure and this shows how effective your campaigns are. The CTR is the click through rate and this is how many times your potential new customers click through to the website landing page.

As a percentage a good click through rate is around 3.75% if you want to achieve more then around 5.75%.  Some businesses run higher at around 11.5% and maintain this once they have refined the campaign.  It should be noted some industries have higher click through rates than others.

What are Display Ads

Display Ads are an online ad that combines text, images, and a URL that links to a website where a customer can learn more about or buy products. There are many ad formats. Ads can be static with an image or animated with multiple images, video, or changing text.

Search ads only appear to a person who actively searches for the required product or service. In contrast, display ads are considered paid placement and can appear anywhere on the web that a user may be navigating.
