How do I brief my graphic designer for a printed brochure?
- Once you have agreed a budget for the project internally with all stakeholders then you can engage a design agency to create artwork
- The first meeting is to meet the designer and let them understand what you require from your design. This will be about the content, images, branding and size and shape of the printed brochure.
- The next stage is for the design company to send a quote to you for approval. Once that has been signed off, in writing, by the client then the design can start.
- It is at this stage that the client will send brand guidelines and if you do not have these fonts, logos, images and content.
- Sentio also sends a brief to the client so they can give as much information as possible and an idea of what they would like included in the printed brochure.
- Once the design starts then the designer will send, by email, pdfs for approval. It is at this stage the client sends the artwork to all stakeholders involved in the project for them to critique/check and make amends.
- Once they have come back with their comments it is then collated and sent to the designer for amends to be made. This process may go on for a few times to make sure all the amends are made and the client is happy with the artwork.
- The final artwork is then sent to the client. It is the responsibility of the client to make sure all stakeholders see and approve the final artwork before going to print. Once all stakeholders have seen the final artwork proof then this can be sent to print.
- It is the sole responsibility of the client to make sure they are fully happy with the artwork, before sending the artwork to print. This means showing all stakeholders in the business.
- Then the artwork can be sent to print.

What do I need to remember to make the design an easy process?
- Always involve all the stakeholders within the business.
- Print out on your office printer the artwork so you can check for spelling mistakes and the layout. This will give you a good idea of what the artwork will look like
- Ask the print company to arrange for a hard copy proof before sending the full print order over. There is a small cost to this, but, it is vital if you do not understand the process as you have mentioned.
- The print company is not responsible for changing artwork in any way and will only print what is supplied and signed off by you, the client with the designer.
